Samsung Admits Data Breach that Exposed Details of Some U.S. Customers

Samsung is one of the credible mobile companies that has been in the market for a long time and has been able to provide different kinds of offers and services to regular customers. Due to that, they need a better grip on their tech and responses.

In order to secure their technology sometimes, they even tie up with several companies to get the best from their customers. However, even the slightest mistake could become the reason for chaos. This time Samsung became the victim of several data breaches.

Samsung, Friday, South Korean Chaebol

According to them, they were victims of a cybersecurity incident. As a result, the data related to customers was breached. This year this is the second time news like this happened and was reported. That is definitely pointing at the seriousness of the matter, and the incidents that can come up with ideas could be malicious.

Late July, 2022

The company also explained that at the end of July, an unknown third party asked for some information from some of Samsung’s U.S. systems. They added –

“On or around August 4, 2022, we determined through our ongoing investigation that personal information of certain customers was affected.”

According to Samsung, due to the trespassing, adversaries were able to get their hands on a variety of data such as names, contact, demographic data, dates of birth, and product registration invoices. This much of the data is not something that should be taken lightly.

Well, fortunately, Social Security Numbers/ Credit/ Debit Card Numbers related to users have not been affected because of this attack. However, the data breached for each one of the victims may vary due to their status.

Company Says – the data customers provide on websites helps the company to increase customer retention by giving them the best facilities in minimum time. The count of victims is anonymous/ it’s hard to tell who was behind all this mess (hack).

Also, it is an issue of why the company took so long to disclose the news about the breach. It could’ve made many more possibilities for complicated issues.

Actions are taken Samsung

Apart from alerting users about the issues related to the security event, Company (Samsung) explained that it took steps ahead to protect the affected systems, and involve a third-party cybersecurity organization to perform the response tasks professionally.

Moreover, it especially alerts users that they must not get in contact with potential social engineering attempts. Also, as much as possible they should avoid clicking on suspicious links or the docs that may come up via anonymous senders. Once in a while, they must check their accounts for potentially malicious activity. This could save the users from being victimized.

Well, the latest hack just came out after only six months after a similar incident happened to Samsung. March 2022, was the time when Samsung talked about another incident that was – its Galaxy Smartphones’ source code data was breached with some other data. It happened after the LAPSUS$ Extortion Gang ran an attack on Samsung

Sometimes, most credible brands could even make you feel underwater because of their irresponsibility. But, whatsoever, they take lessons from previous experiences and make better decisions afterward.
