“Indian government websites are continuously under cyberattacks from Pakistan, and retaliation is the only way for now. But we don’t know till when!”
Maharashtra Cyber officials claimed on Monday that Indian government websites are being bombarded by hackers from Bangladesh, the Middle East, and the neighboring countries, even after India and Pakistan came to an agreement to halt armed hostilities.
Only 150 of the 1.5 crore cyberattacks that were launched following the Pahalgam terror assault on April 22 were successful, according to officials.
Speaking to reporters, a top Maharashtra Cyber official refuted allegations that hackers had targeted the Election Commission website, compromised aviation and municipal systems, and stolen data from Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.
The Maharashtra government’s nodal office for investigating cybercrimes and maintaining security is called Maharashtra Cyber.

| “The probe discovered that cyberattacks on (government websites in) India decreased after India-Pakistan ceased hostilities, but did not fully stop. These attacks continue from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Morocco, and Middle Eastern countries,” the official said.
He said Maharashtra Cyber has launched a dedicated campaign against misinformation on social media and has taken down 38 of 83 fake news posts. The cyber department will take action against fake news related to the armed forces and the Indian government under the “Nation First Fact First” campaign, the official added. After receiving the distress call, analysts reach out to the caller, the official said, adding that around 100 phone lines are working simultaneously. He said that 7,000 calls are received daily on both the 1930 and 1945 numbers. He said Maharashtra Cyber had received information that 29 Indians were trapped in cyber slavery in the Southeast Asian country. (PTI). |
Specialized helplines were established to educate the public about online fraud. To get emergency assistance, citizens can ring 1930 and 1945.
Since 2019, cyber officials have prevented cyber fraud by taking prompt action against cybercriminals, saving Rs 600 crore. “Rs 200 crore has been saved in the past six months.”
According to authorities, a 39-year-old CA student was detained in Indore for reportedly using seven profiles on X to disparage Hindu deities. Since 2021, the accused has reportedly insulted Hindu deities.
BJP MP Medha Kulkarni brought this matter to the attention of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
According to the official, Maharashtra Cyber has rescued six young people from Maharashtra who were ensnared in cyberslavery in Laos.
If the confined teenagers refused to commit cybercrimes, they were tormented by being shocked with electricity and having their nails pulled out.
