Four people were detained by the Cyberabad police on Tuesday on suspicion of running internet gaming and betting websites.
Chinamsetti Naga Rakesh, Pottavanthi Deepak, Guguloth Sri Ram Naik, and Hemanth Kumar were the names of the people who were taken into custody, according to Cyberabad Deputy Commissioner of Police (Cybercrime) B. Sri Sai.

| ‘One victim died by suicide.’ “The victims suffered heavy financial losses, along with personal issues such as depression and divorce. One victim even died by suicide,” the DCP said.
“The fraudsters used Telegram channels – such as ICC Cricket Reports, the Mars Toss, Telugu Toss Line, and Balaji Cricket – to scout for potential targets, predominantly from Telugu-speaking states. They used advertisements and messages that guaranteed returns to lure people into online betting,” the DCP said.
“We believe three more individuals are involved. The investigation is still going on, and we will get more details soon,” the DCP further said. |
Ten cell phones, five debit cards, nine passbooks, two checkbooks, a laptop, and an iPad were confiscated by the police. The accused allegedly used different betting sites to entice over 10,000 people, primarily young people, over six years, earning at least Rs 2.5 crore.
The arrests came after a Miyapur resident filed a complaint on May 13. According to the lawsuit, the victim and his companion lost ₹60,000 and ₹50,000, respectively, as a result of internet gambling.

Police are searching for the people behind these betting sites and have not yet been able to retrieve the extorted funds.
