Organizations running Ubuntu in production environments often delay major operating system upgrades until the next point release is available, which includes accumulated patches and support for newer hardware. The latest point release, Ubuntu 24.04.4 LTS, is now available as refreshed installation media for the Noble Numbat version, incorporating the latest updates and offering a current hardware enablement stack for new deployments.

Support and Maintenance

The Ubuntu 24.04 LTS series will receive maintenance updates and security patches for five years from its initial release, with Extended Security Maintenance options available thereafter. This support applies to the Desktop, Server, Cloud, and Core editions, while community flavors have their own support windows. Existing systems running Ubuntu 24.04 LTS will receive these improvements through the regular update process and do not require reinstallation from the updated media. The updated hardware enablement stack is also available on the refreshed installation media published for 24.04.4 LTS, providing the updated kernel and drivers from the start and eliminating the need to apply HWE updates after setup.

Ubuntu Flavors

All official Ubuntu flavors, including Kubuntu, Ubuntu Budgie, Lubuntu, Ubuntu Kylin, Ubuntu Studio, Xubuntu, Edubuntu, Ubuntu Cinnamon, and Ubuntu Unity, are available with matching 24.04.4 point releases. Installation images for these variants include similar cumulative updates, ensuring that users have access to the latest security and bug fixes.
