Samsung Expands Secure Access to Homes with Digital Home Key Feature
Samsung Electronics has introduced a new feature, Digital Home Key, within its Samsung Wallet app, allowing users to unlock compatible smart door locks using their smartphones. This development extends the app’s digital key capabilities, previously limited to vehicles, to the home environment.

Samsung Wallet: A Centralized, Secure Hub
Samsung Wallet serves as a centralized, secure hub for storing essential items, including payment cards, IDs, passes, and digital keys. With the introduction of Digital Home Key, the app now supports access to both vehicles and homes, streamlining users’ daily routines.
Setting Up and Using Digital Home Key
To set up a compatible smart door lock, users can add a Digital Home Key to Samsung Wallet through Samsung SmartThings using the Matter global smart home standard. Once set up, users can unlock their doors using near-field communication (NFC) technology, ultra-wideband (UWB) proximity detection, or remotely through the app, depending on device and lock capabilities.
Security and Partnerships
Samsung Wallet’s Digital Home Key adopts the Aliro standard, ensuring secure, interoperable digital keys for smart locks. Samsung is collaborating with leading smart lock brands, including Aqara, Nuki, Schlage, and Xthings, to support Digital Home Key.
The digital keys are stored securely within Samsung Wallet on the device, protected by Samsung Knox, the company’s industry-leading security platform. The solution meets EAL6+ grade certification standards, providing robust protection against unauthorized access to digital keys.
Managing and Protecting Digital Home Keys
If a device is misplaced, users can remotely manage or remove access using Samsung Find, while biometric or PIN authentication within Samsung Wallet ensures that only authorized users can manage and use their home keys. This level of protection allows users to maintain control over their Digital Home Key, ensuring secure access to their homes.
