Fraudulent Use of Musical Artist’s Identity Exposes Black Market Ticket Scam

A Bengaluru musician’s identity was compromised due to a careless social media post, leading to a multi-thousand rupee loss through the misuse of their official identification card.

How It Happened

The musician, a member of a local band, had been issued an ID card by the event organizers, which contained sensitive personal information. On March 28, the musician posted photographs from an Indian Premier League (IPL) match on their Instagram account. Unbeknownst to them, the post inadvertently exposed the front side of their ID card, containing their name and other identifying details.

According to sources, “The musician was not aware of the potential consequences of their carelessness. However, when they received a call from the event organizers on April 6, informing them of the misuse of their ID, they immediately took steps to rectify the situation.”

Investigation and Aftermath

Police are tracing the UPI transaction to a specific mobile number associated with the suspect. The incident highlights the importance of exercising caution when sharing sensitive personal information online, even if seemingly innocuous, as it can have serious repercussions.

Hemanth K B, the affected musician, has since reported the incident to the authorities and deleted the offending social media post.
