Booking.com Faces Customer Data Breach, Reservation Information Compromised

Travel giant Booking.com recently confirmed that an unauthorized party accessed customer data related to specific reservations.

Unauthorized Access Detected

The company promptly notified affected users and secured their accounts by resetting PIN numbers for all impacted bookings.

Exposed Data

  • Personally identifiable information (PII)
  • Names
  • Addresses
  • Phone numbers
  • Reservation dates

No Financial Information Exposed

However, credit card numbers and bank details remained secure.

According to security experts, even though sensitive financial data was not accessed, the compromised booking information can still be used to launch targeted phishing attacks.

Security Measures

Booking.com urges customers to exercise caution and avoid sharing sensitive bank information or making payments through unsolicited communication channels.

Previous Incidents

This incident follows a previous data breach in 2021, where Dutch regulators fined Booking.com €475,000 for failing to report the breach within the required timeframe.

Researchers discovered spyware on several hotel computers in 2024, allowing attackers to capture screenshots of the Booking.com administration portal.

As the investigation continues, Booking.com remains committed to protecting its customers’ data and ensuring the integrity of its systems.
