Racket Disrupted: Online Loan Scammers Arrested, $Millions Lost

Indian authorities have brought down an organized online loan scam targeting foreign nationals, arresting ten individuals involved in the operation.

According to officials, the scammers preyed on people living abroad with promises of low-interest loans, charging them processing fees in dollars.

The investigation began when Indian authorities discovered that the scammers were contacting potential victims via online calls, offering them loans with unusually low interest rates. Victims were persuaded to pay upfront fees or advance charges, often in exchange for a loan that never materialized.

Law enforcement officials reported that the scammers operated from rented flats in Zirakpur, utilizing multiple locations to facilitate their scheme. A search of the premises revealed nine laptops and ten mobile phones, seized as evidence.

As part of the ongoing probe, investigators are working to identify additional victims and unravel the complex financial transactions linked to the operation. The authorities believe that the scammers’ network extended beyond the initial targets, with a potentially broader impact.

The scammers employed a well-coordinated approach, operating from within India while targeting individuals abroad. This sophisticated setup allowed them to evade detection for some time before being brought to justice.

The arrest of the ten individuals marks a significant blow to the operation, and the authorities are now focusing on recovering the stolen funds and bringing those responsible to account. As the investigation continues, it remains to be seen how extensive the reach of this scam ultimately proves to be.
