High-Tech IPL Betting Ring Brought Down: ‘BetHub 24’ App Exposed as Central Hub for Illicit Activity

In a significant breakthrough during the Indian Premier League (IPL) season, law enforcement agencies have dismantled a sophisticated betting ring operating through a mobile app called “BetHub 24.”

The operation, which spanned multiple states, was led by an individual known as Mangesh alias “Professor,” who remains at large.

BetHub 24: A Complex System for Manipulating Betting Outcomes

According to officials, the betting ring was controlled through a complex system involving a master ID and a digital platform. The master ID allowed the group to manipulate betting outcomes for high-stakes players, ensuring that those with more significant investments would lose money.

New customers were lured into the scheme by being allowed to win small bets initially, after which they were gradually pushed towards larger losses.

Recruitment Strategies and Financial Transactions

The investigation uncovered that the group had recruited customers through various means, including social media and word-of-mouth. Those involved in the operation were paid a monthly salary of approximately Rs. 20,000, with their primary responsibilities including customer recruitment and cash collection.

Raid and Seizures: A Total of Rs. 3.92 Crores in Cash Recovered

Law enforcement agencies discovered that the group was operating out of a rented house in Kidwai Nagar, where digital coordination and financial transactions took place. They also found that the group was using a car as a mobile command center during IPL matches, facilitating real-time betting and transactions.

A total of Rs. 3.92 crores in cash, along with currency counting machines, mobile phones, and other equipment, were seized during the raid.

According to the Income Tax Department, a parallel investigation into the financial aspects of the case has been launched, given the large amount of cash seized.

Authorities believe that the network may extend beyond Kanpur, potentially linking to international digital betting platforms.

Futher Investigations Underway

Further investigations are underway, with officials expecting significant revelations in the coming days.

The case highlights the need for vigilance in preventing illicit betting activities, particularly during high-profile events like the IPL.
