This approach allows Microsoft to deliver the 26H2 update as a compact enablement package, which activates pre-installed features on compatible devices. Devices running Windows 11 24H2 or 25H2 can transition to 26H2 by installing the enablement package, followed by a brief system restart. Once applied, the update introduces new functionalities and updates the operating system’s build number to 26300.

However, systems using older versions, such as 23H2 or earlier, will need to perform a full upgrade. This process requires 6.5 GB of available storage space.

Microsoft has not indicated any changes to the hardware specifications for the 26H2 release. The company has not yet set a specific date for the general availability of 26H2, but historical patterns suggest it will be released in the fall.
