Activities include school and college workshops, rural outreach programs, and public engagement efforts across the district. Officials emphasized that understanding common cyber fraud methods—such as deceptive links, One-Time Password (OTP) scams, online banking fraud, digital arrest schemes, and social media-based crimes—is critical for prevention.

Cyber Awareness Manual

A dedicated cyber awareness manual was introduced during the launch, compiled from data gathered through incident reports. The manual will be distributed to both public and private schools throughout Jharkhand, with the education department supporting expansion to maximize reach.

School Programs and Community Involvement

The campaign incorporates specialized safety sessions in educational institutions, with government schools encouraged to appoint a “Cyber Mitra” to assist peers in adopting fundamental online safety practices. Students will also disseminate safety information during morning assemblies, extending awareness to households and broader communities.

Outreach and Public Engagement

Outreach extends beyond schools, utilizing traditional and digital methods to engage villages, workplaces, and public spaces. Two mobile units equipped with LED screens will traverse police station jurisdictions, displaying videos explaining fraud techniques and preventive measures. Additional awareness materials will be visible on billboards and shared via social media platforms and influencers. Cinemas are set to screen cybersecurity videos during all screenings next month, further broadening public exposure.

Renowned cybercrime specialist and former IPS officer Prof. Triveni Singh highlighted the necessity of public education as a cornerstone of cybercrime prevention. The Future Crime Research Foundation underscored the importance of sustained community-level awareness, advocating for educational programs that address not only financial fraud but also the protection of personal data, mobile devices, social media accounts, and digital identities.

Reporting and Vigilance

Authorities encouraged victims of cybercrime to report incidents without hesitation, noting that timely reporting is vital for cases involving unauthorized financial transactions, as early intervention increases the likelihood of freezing or tracing illicit funds. Over 100 students and educators from local institutions participated in the launch event, with participants pledging to share cybersecurity knowledge within their networks.

The initiative follows recognition of Dhanbad Police’s efforts in combating cybercrime, including a recent national “Excellence Award” from the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) team.
