Jhansi Retired Teacher Loses ₹96.31 Lakh in Online Investment Fraud
A former educator in Jhansi has reported a financial loss of ₹96.31 lakh following an alleged scheme involving fraudulent investment propositions.
How Did the Fraudulent Scheme Initiate?
The victim, identified as Shyam Shankar Singh, a resident of Civil Lines in Jhansi, disclosed to authorities that he encountered an advertisement for an entity named Cognitive Engine Group. This organization purported to offer lucrative investment opportunities. After sharing personal information, Singh was contacted by an individual claiming to be Meera Arora, who allegedly represented the group. The communication included assurances of high returns on investments, prompting Singh to engage further.
What Transactions Were Conducted?
According to the victim’s report, he transferred ₹72,33,894 through digital channels to accounts specified by the perpetrators. The fraudulent scheme promised substantial financial gains, but when Singh attempted to withdraw the funds, he was excluded from the associated communication groups. The accounts and platforms used in the transactions are now under investigation by law enforcement.
How Was the Fake Financial Interface Utilized?
Singh alleged that he was also directed to a separate platform called K-9 Axis Security between August 18 and September 19. This site mimicked the design of the official Axis Bank website, creating the illusion of legitimacy. Through this interface, he transferred an additional ₹23,98,025. Subsequent attempts to access the funds resulted in his removal from the platform’s groups, leading to the total loss of ₹96,31,919.
What Measures Have Been Taken by Authorities?
Following the suspected fraud, Singh filed a report via the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal and approached local cybercrime investigators. The case involves allegations of deceptive investment practices, impersonation of financial institutions, and the use of online groups to manipulate victims. Law enforcement is currently analyzing the flow of funds through the bank accounts involved and seeking to identify those responsible for the scheme.
