Over 50 gram panchayat digital credentials have become nonfunctional following the emergence of 498 fraudulent birth certificates in Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha district. The issue involves registration IDs linked to birth and death record-keeping systems, with multiple panchayat officials reporting unauthorized access attempts and account deactivation.

Hasanpur and Mandi Dhanaura Incidents

The initial reports of irregularities originated from the Hasanpur and Mandi Dhanaura administrative blocks. Panchayat secretaries in these regions received unsolicited one-time passwords (OTPs) before encountering login failures for their registration accounts.

Kamendra Singh, a panchayat secretary in Hasanpur, confirmed receiving OTPs on October 16, after which the credentials for Baseda Khurd, Rampur Bhur, and Soharka gram panchayats became inaccessible. Singh alerted the Chief Medical Officer’s office to the issue, though no immediate resolution was provided.

In Mandi Dhanaura, Rajiv Chaudhary reported receiving OTPs on October 5, 6, and 7, leading to the malfunction of four panchayat accounts under the Mohanmadipur Patti cluster. Affected officials could not access their systems using standard login credentials.

An unnamed official noted that approximately 50 gram panchayat IDs across the district displayed invalid status despite unchanged passwords. While unauthorized access remains a concern, no definitive evidence of compromise has been confirmed.

Panchayat Raj Officer Nitin Kumar stated his office had not received formal complaints from affected officials, leaving the cause of the current disruptions unresolved.

Tofapur Case

The current disruption follows a prior incident involving the Tofapur gram panchayat in the Joya block. A registration ID linked to this panchayat allegedly generated 498 birth certificates between October 6 and 7 without formal applications. Of these, 270 certificates were attributed to individuals in Uttar Pradesh, while 228 were associated with other states or unspecified locations. The anomaly was detected on
