ATS Arrests Man in Jaunpur Court Bomb Threat Case: Anti-Terrorism Efforts in Uttar Pradesh
Man Arrested for Orchestrating Bomb Threat to Jaunpur Court Complex
A man from Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, has been arrested by the state’s Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) for orchestrating a bomb threat to the Jaunpur court complex and police lines gate.
Accused Identified as Vishal Ranjan
The accused, identified as Vishal Ranjan, allegedly created the threat in an attempt to disrupt his girlfriend’s wedding and implicate her fiancé.
Threatening Emails Sent to District Judge
According to ATS officials, on February 17, five separate fake IDs were used to send threatening emails to the official account of the district judge at the Jaunpur District Court. The emails warned of blowing up the court premises and the police lines gate and demanded a ransom of ₹1 lakh.
Following the complaint, an FIR was registered, and an investigation was launched. Cyber forensic analysis revealed that the accused had used VPN services and proxy servers to conceal his identity. However, investigators were able to trace the digital trail to Nizamabad in Azamgarh district.
Accused Arrested and Devices Seized
A raid was conducted at a rented accommodation in the Sidhari area, and Ranjan was arrested. During the search, five mobile phones and a laptop were seized. Preliminary examination of the devices revealed that the accused had created over 50 fake accounts.
Investigation Reveals Motive
During interrogation, Ranjan confessed that he was in a relationship with a young woman whose marriage had been fixed in Jaunpur. Upset over the development, he initially attempted to disrupt the wedding by creating a fake social media profile in the name of her fiancé and posting objectionable content.
Accused Booked Under Relevant Sections
The accused has been booked under relevant sections of the IT Act and other applicable laws. Detailed forensic analysis of the seized electronic devices is underway to determine whether similar threats were issued elsewhere.
