Bhagalpur CSP Operator Arrested in Fingerprint Cloning Fraud Scheme Exposed

Law enforcement officials in Bhagalpur, India, have apprehended a man accused of orchestrating a massive fingerprint cloning operation, targeting vulnerable rural communities and resulting in significant financial losses.

The Suspect and His Tactics

The suspect, identified as Rajkishore Yadav, allegedly used silicone biometric molds and paper copies to obtain fingerprints of over 400 individuals, subsequently exploiting their Aadhaar-linked banking data to execute large-scale online fraud.

According to investigators, Yadav specifically targeted rural residents, particularly women and senior citizens, using various tactics such as misrepresenting himself as providing Aadhaar updates, e-KYC, and banking services. This ruse allowed him to gain access to sensitive personal and financial information, ultimately leading to substantial monetary losses.

Authorities estimate the total financial damage to run into crores of rupees.

Recovery of Fingerprint Copies and Investigation

During the investigation, police recovered fingerprint copies of 320 individuals, including those from the neighboring Katihar district. Interrogation revealed the involvement of an accomplice, Sonu Mandal, who aided Yadav in cloning fingerprints. The duo operated in coordination with multiple individuals, and police claim that the full extent of the network is still being uncovered.

Following the arrest, the Bhagalpur City Superintendent of Police emphasized the importance of digital awareness and strict monitoring to prevent similar scams. Officials also urged residents to exercise caution when seeking banking or Aadhaar-related services, advising them to only utilize authorized and trusted centers.

Experts underscored the need for transparency and regular audits of Customer Service Points (CSPs) to safeguard rural and less-literate populations from falling victim to such schemes. Law enforcement has vowed to continue investigating similar cases and take decisive action against those involved.
