Chinese Cybercrime Mastermind Arrested in India Call Center Sting Operation
Chinese Cyber Extortion Ring Dismantled: Operation Targets Foreigners Via Video Calls
On April 10, 2026, a joint operation between law enforcement agencies resulted in the arrest of 16 individuals, including a Chinese national, in connection with an international cybercrime ring that preyed on foreigners through fake arrest scams.
The scheme involved creating a sense of urgency through the display of fabricated arrest warrants and toll-free numbers, which were used to contact victims directly. Those targeted were instructed to make immediate bank transfers ranging from $100 to $500 to avoid further action against them or their families.
The cybercrime ring was led by a Chinese national who provided technical expertise and operational guidance. Fifteen Indian nationals assisted in carrying out the calls, taking advantage of their language skills and local banking access. This collaboration allowed the group to operate efficiently and maintain a significant revenue stream from their extortion activities.
During the raids, authorities seized a substantial amount of evidence, including four laptops, 15 desktops, 15 monitors, 16 mobile phones, and 16 microphones, as well as operational calling software and toll-free numbers. Additionally, they discovered records of transactions, script templates, and victim profiles, which documented the systematic nature of the international predation.
