Crypto Investment Scam made a loss of 1.6 Cr for a 54-year-old working woman
“Trading scams are victimizing innocent people who are not aware of such alluring scamming campaigns.”
A 54-year-old Mehdipatnam woman lost more than 1.6 crore to scammers who operated a bitcoin trading and online part-time business.
What happened?
- A WhatsApp message guaranteeing a consistent income for submitting online evaluations was sent to the victim on June 2.
- She joined a Telegram group after clicking the message’s link.
- Through the website “mint9fx.pages.dev,” the group’s administrators convinced her to invest in cryptocurrencies.
- “I made an initial investment of $2,000 and got $2,800 back. I started making small investments when the administrators encouraged me to do so,” the victim stated.
- She made 24 bank transactions totaling more than 1.6 crore between June 17 and July 25.
- She made 59 transactions totaling ₹89,800 throughout this period.
- The appearance of legitimacy was produced by these early responses.
- But in a matter of weeks, the scammers started making demands for ever-increasing amounts, claiming that there were problems with taxes, service fees, and credit score irregularities.
- “When I refused to pay more, they threatened to freeze my trading balance of 1.6 crore unless I paid an 80% ‘unfreeze fee.’ That’s when I realized it was a scam,” she told the cybercrime police.

On August 2, cybercrime police filed a case against unidentified people under BNS in response to her complaint. The fraudulent amount was transferred through 30 recipient bank accounts, according to a tech investigation.
