Cases of Cyber Fraud Highlight Need for Vigilance

In recent times, several cases of cyber fraud have come to light, highlighting the need for individuals to be vigilant when engaging in online banking and financial transactions. In one such incident, a businessman from Aishbagh, Yamuna Vihar, lost ₹52 lakh over the course of 41 days after a perpetrator gained access to his account using a link sent to him.

Perpetrators Utilize Banking Applications and OTPs

The perpetrator was able to gain control of the victim’s account by utilizing banking applications, mobile numbers, and one-time passwords (OTPs). This highlights the sophistication of the banking takeover technique employed by the cybercriminals.

According to Lucknow police, “This represents a new tactic employed by cybercriminals to extract sensitive account information through small transactions before making larger withdrawals.”

Doctor Falls Prey to Different Type of Scam

Dr. Raj Kapoor from Ghusouli village, Malihabad, fell prey to a different type of scam. A scammer contacted the doctor and requested that he transfer ₹5 via Google Pay QR code. The scammer then obtained access to Dr. Kapoor’s account details and withdrew ₹41,000.

Insurance Policy Renewal Leads to Withdrawal

Abhay Prakash from Chowk Chaupatiya was similarly deceived when he attempted to renew his insurance policy. A person posing as an agent from Max Insurance Company convinced him to share his account details, resulting in a withdrawal of ₹51,000.
