Cybercrime Incident in Atarsuiya Area

A recent cybercrime incident in the Atarsuiya area has come to light, in which an advocate was defrauded of ₹4 lakh by scammers posing as a Delhi Police IPS officer.

The Scam

The perpetrators employed a digital arrest scam, threatening the victim with a fake money-laundering FIR.

On February 16, the victim received a video call from a man claiming to be a Delhi Police IPS officer. The impersonator wore a police uniform and introduced himself as such. He informed the advocate that a First Information Report (FIR) had been filed against him and that he would be arrested if he did not comply with the caller’s demands.

The Scammer’s Tactics

The scammer exploited the victim’s fear of arrest, coercing him into transferring ₹4 lakh to multiple bank accounts. The fraudster continued to deceive the victim for several days, claiming that the amount was being verified by the Reserve Bank of India. However, the accused eventually ceased contact, leading the advocate to realize he had been duped.
