Dutch Carrier Odido Data Breach Affects 6 Million Customers
Data Breach at Odido Exposes 6.2 Million Customers’ Personal Information
A data breach at Dutch mobile phone carrier Odido has exposed the personal information of approximately 6.2 million customers. The incident occurred on February 7-8, when unauthorized individuals gained access to the company’s customer contact system. Both Odido and its subsidiary Ben were affected by the breach.
Stolen Data
The attackers stole sensitive customer data, including names, addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth, customer numbers, bank account numbers, and passport or driver’s license numbers and validity. However, Odido stated that its services were not impacted by the breach, and that no passwords, call records, or invoice data were compromised.
Response to the Breach
Upon discovering the breach, Odido immediately severed the attackers’ access to its systems and implemented additional security measures. The company also notified the relevant authorities and began notifying affected customers directly via email or phone. Customers are being advised to be cautious of suspicious activities, such as phishing attempts.
Odido is working with cybersecurity experts to monitor the web for any signs of the stolen data being published or misused. While the company is not aware of any instances of the data being leaked online, it is warning customers to remain vigilant.
Investigation and Prevention
The threat actor behind the attack has not been disclosed, and no known extortion group has claimed responsibility. Odido has not shared further details on the breach, citing an ongoing investigation.
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of robust security measures and timely incident response. As the use of personal data becomes increasingly widespread, companies must prioritize the protection of sensitive information to prevent breaches and minimize their impact.
