Darekar got in touch with victims of online financial fraud and offered to assist them in getting their money back.  When he was arrested, it was discovered that he had downloaded the FIRs of victims of cybercrime from the government website, obtained their details, and utilized them to carry out his scam.

Darekar has been defrauding people in Maharashtra since May 2024, using FIR details obtained from the government website to gather lakhs of rupees after at least five victims of cyber fraud who had lost between ₹10 lakh and ₹1 crore reported being contacted by a person known as “Darekar,” West Cyber made the decision to file a formal complaint.

He defrauded them of ₹5,000 to ₹20,000 by claiming to be from the NCCR portal and the Cyber helpline “1930” and offering to retrieve the money that had been taken.  “Darekar collected money as fees from victims in order to obtain their money back, and then he conducted the five frauds between May and July.”  According to a police officer from the West Cyber police station, he was taken into custody after a suo-motu FIR was filed against him.
