Google Accelerates Chrome Release Cycle to Enhance Security

In a bid to provide users with faster access to security patches, performance enhancements, and new features, Google is adopting a new release cycle for its Chrome browser. Starting with the upcoming stable release of Chrome 153 on September 8, 2026, the browser will transition to a two-week release schedule. This change will apply to desktop, Android, and iOS platforms, while the Dev and Canary channels will remain unaffected.

Release Schedule Details

The Extended Stable channel, introduced in 2021 for enterprise administrators who require more time to manage updates, will continue to follow an eight-week release cycle. However, Google recommends that enterprise users opt for the two-week Stable channel when security takes priority over maintenance costs. Chromebook users will still have extended release options, with updates rolling out after additional platform testing.
