Honey Trap Gang Busted in Moradabad, Six Arrested Including Three Women
Extortion Gang Busted in Moradabad
A Moradabad-based extortion gang, which used a honey trap tactic to blackmail victims, has been dismantled by local authorities. Six individuals, including three women, were taken into custody by the Civil Lines police in connection with the organized racket.
Modus Operandi
According to officials, the gang’s modus operandi involved luring victims, primarily men, through social media and phone calls. The suspects would establish a rapport with their targets, eventually convincing them to meet in person. Once the victim was in a vulnerable position, the gang would create compromising situations, secretly record videos and photographs, and then use the material to extort money.
Incident Involving Property Dealer
In one such incident, a property dealer, Vikas Mehra, was targeted by the gang. Mehra was contacted by a woman, identified as Seeba alias Shania, who claimed to have a property to show him. On February 24, Mehra was taken to a two-story house in Chakkar Ki Milak, where the gang created an objectionable situation and recorded videos. The suspects then threatened to make the video public and file a rape case against Mehra unless he paid them ₹3 lakh. Mehra ultimately paid ₹60,000 to the gang.
Investigation and Arrests
The incident came to light when Mehra’s wife, Suchita Mehta, filed a complaint with the police. An investigation was launched, and the six accused were arrested. During interrogation, police discovered that the gang had been targeting individuals through digital platforms, using their trust to blackmail them for money.

Authorities have urged the public to exercise caution when interacting with strangers on social media and to report any suspicious activity immediately.

As the use of social media and online platforms continues to grow, the risk of falling prey to such scams and extortion rackets also increases.
