Cyber-Enabled Extortion Case in Mughalpura

A recent case of cyber-enabled extortion has come to light in the Mughalpura area, where a man was allegedly lured into a trap through romantic conversations over the phone, physically assaulted, and blackmailed using a compromising video.

Incident Details

According to the complainant, Naushad, the ordeal began when a woman identifying herself as Shagufta initiated romantic conversations with him over the phone for approximately a month. Gaining his trust, Shagufta convinced Naushad to meet a woman named Rehana at a location in the Tajpur area. Upon arrival, Rehana attempted to record a video of Naushad, and when he tried to stop her, his mobile phone was forcibly taken away.

A group of individuals, including Ilma, Ikra, Ubaid, Suleman, Imran, Nanu, Chand, and Syed, allegedly arrived at the scene and assaulted Naushad. The attackers forced him to disrobe and recorded a video during the assault. The group then threatened to make the video public and file a false rape case against Naushad unless he paid them a substantial sum of money.

Blackmail and Demands

Initially, the blackmailers demanded ₹3 lakh from Naushad. However, on October 19, 2025, Naushad, accompanied by his mother and brother, visited Suleman’s residence, fearing social humiliation. The accused allegedly pressured them into handing over ₹85,000 to Rehana.

Naushad claimed that the group was involved in similar honeytrap extortion activities, targeting multiple victims, and using the same modus operandi. On October 18, 2025, Shagufta’s brother-in-law Imran, along with Suleman, Anees, and Pappi Chaudhary, allegedly contacted Naushad again, demanding an additional ₹1 lakh.

Investigation and Warning

The police have booked 12 individuals, including family relatives, in connection with the case. Authorities are currently investigating whether the gang was involved in similar honeytrap extortion cases targeting other victims. As part of the investigation, officials are analyzing digital evidence, call records, and possible network links among the accused.

Law enforcement officials have cautioned the public to exercise caution when interacting with unknown individuals on phone or social media, advising against sharing personal or sensitive information. They emphasized that victims of such honeytrap or blackmail threats should immediately report the matter to the authorities instead of succumbing to pressure and paying money.

The investigation into the case is ongoing.
