India Cyber Crime Ring Busted in Patna for Online Gaming Scams
The Pan-India Cyber Fraud Network Bust: Uncovering a Nationwide Scam
In a significant breakthrough, law enforcement authorities have dismantled a massive cyber fraud network operating across India.
- The racket, which had its roots in Patna, Bihar, allegedly duped victims through online gaming and betting scams, resulting in substantial financial losses.
- The network was functioning from a high-tech control room based in Shastri Nagar, Patna.
Key Findings:
- Five individuals, including Shashank Shekhar, Manish Kumar, Suryadeep Raj, Rishu Kumar, and Sachin Kumar, were arrested in connection with the case.
- The accused individuals were allegedly recruited on a salary basis to operate the fraud network.
- Preliminary investigations revealed that the gang used attractive bonuses and reward schemes to lure victims into joining gaming or betting platforms.
- Once the victims were hooked, their bank accounts were compromised, and funds were siphoned off.
According to sources, the accused individuals were reportedly paid between ₹15,000 and ₹30,000 per month, while the primary profits were controlled by the mastermind, Ankit Kumar.
Seizures and Investigation:
- During the raid, authorities seized 21 high-end smartphones, 24 active SIM cards, multiple ATM cards, cheque books, and two high-speed laptops.
- Investigators believe that the network relied heavily on “social engineering” tactics, exploiting human psychology rather than technical vulnerabilities.
Cybersecurity experts warn that such scams are becoming increasingly sophisticated and widespread. The case highlights the need for vigilance and awareness among internet users.
- Experts advise verifying the authenticity of online gaming or investment offers before engaging and avoiding sharing sensitive financial information.
Law enforcement agencies are now working to track down the mastermind, Ankit Kumar, who managed to evade arrest during the raid. The probe is ongoing, and authorities are examining the bank accounts and transaction trails linked to the network to assess the total scale of the fraud and identify further links.
