Law enforcement officials in Jhansi, India, have taken down a significant online cricket betting operation after conducting a raid on a high-end apartment complex.
Raid Details
A team of officials from the Jhansi Police Department raided the LS Block of Royal City on May 9, 2026, and seized assets worth approximately ₹1.72 crore (around $230 million USD).
Betting Racket Uncovered
The betting operation, based at Flat No. 9 in the LS Block, used sophisticated digital infrastructure to facilitate large-scale transactions, mainly during Indian Premier League (IPL) matches.
Cash and Assets Seized
Law enforcement officials discovered a substantial cache of cash, gold biscuits, jewelry, and electronic equipment within the apartment’s storage areas.
Individuals Involved
Two women, Yashasvi Dwivedi and Nisha Khan, were arrested during the raid and are currently under interrogation. Initial investigations suggest that Dwivedi had connections with a suspended police constable, Rajat Kumar, who was dismissed from service following the surfacing of his name during the investigation.
Digital Forensics Ongoing
Forensic analysis of the seized digital devices, including a laptop and 12 mobile phones, is underway to identify potential links to other individuals involved in the betting operation.
Investigation Continues
Suspicious communications, online payment records, and betting-related data may be extracted from the devices. Authorities are also investigating the involvement of a jailed politician, Ashish Upadhyay, whose name has emerged during the course of the probe.
