Microsoft Links Classic Outlook Issue to Delivery Problems

Microsoft is currently investigating a known issue affecting users of Classic Outlook, which causes email delivery problems. According to a recent announcement, users are experiencing non-delivery reports (NDRs) when trying to send emails to certain recipients.

  • The issue appears to be related to Outlook profiles linked to other Exchange accounts, as well as accounts with Exchange Online mail contacts having the same SMTP address.
  • When sending emails, the client attempts to resolve the recipient’s address through the M365 account Address Book, which can lead to the NDR error.

Microsoft has identified several potential workarounds to temporarily alleviate the issue. These include:

  • Removing the M365 account Address Book from the client
  • Hiding the Outlook.com contact from the GAL
  • Creating a new Classic Outlook profile
  • Using the New Outlook client or Outlook.com on the web to send emails from the affected account
According to Microsoft’s official statement, “We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to resolve this issue.”

Other Known Issues Resolved by Microsoft

Microsoft has also resolved two other previously known problems, including:

  • Classic Outlook crashing when enabling the Microsoft Teams Meeting Add-in
  • 0x800CCC0F and 0x80070057 errors when syncing Gmail and Yahoo accounts

Microsoft is actively investigating two known bugs affecting various aspects of its services, including:

  • Issues connecting to servers when creating groups, particularly when EWS is enabled for the tenant
  • Disappearing mouse pointers in Classic Outlook, OneNote, and other Microsoft 365 applications
