Microsoft Pulls Faulty Windows Update KB5079391 Over Installation Issues
Microsoft Pulls Buggy Windows Update Due to Installation Issues
Microsoft has halted the rollout of its non-security preview update, KB5079391, which was intended to bring several enhancements to Windows 11, including Smart App Control and display improvements.
The company made the decision after encountering a known issue that triggers a specific error code, 0x80073712, during installation.
Update Details
- KB5079391 aimed to bring 29 changes to Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2.
- Improvements included Windows Hello Fingerprint reliability on certain devices and the stability of the Windows Recovery Environment (Windows RE) when running x64 applications on ARM64 devices.
Pause in Deployment
Due to the identified installation error, the rollout of this update remains paused indefinitely until further notice.
Microsoft’s Plan
Recent Updates
This development comes as part of a series of recent updates that have encountered issues with Microsoft’s Windows ecosystem.
Last week, the company released an emergency update to address a major problem affecting sign-ins with Microsoft accounts across various Microsoft applications, including Teams, the Edge web browser, Microsoft 365 Copilot, and OneDrive.
Additionally, Microsoft has already rolled out two out-of-band updates to address separate bugs in the Windows platform, including a Bluetooth device visibility issue and security vulnerabilities in the Routing and Remote Access Service (RRAS) management tool.
Furthermore, Microsoft has provided guidance for resolving a C:\\ drive access issue on Samsung Windows 11 laptops, which is linked to a faulty version of the Samsung Galaxy Connect (or Samsung Continuity Service) application.
Pentesting Methods
Automated pentesting methods often fall short in providing comprehensive security coverage, covering only one of the six critical validation surfaces.
A more robust approach involves conducting both automated testing and Business Acceptance Specification (BAS) testing to ensure thorough protection against potential threats.
