MP is swamped with 8 cybercrime cases every hour
“These Days, Madhya Pradesh is getting a huge amount of cybercrime cases on an hourly basis.”
With 34,021 cases recorded in the first half of this year, an average of 189 incidents per day and eight per hour, Madhya Pradesh is seeing a startling increase in cybercrime. Since 2021, when 13,768 cases were reported, cybercrime in the state has increased significantly, according to data presented to the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.
It increased to 26,053 in 2022, then to 52,846 in 2023, and 68,578 in 2024. As of this year’s first half, the state has recorded 34,021 cybercrime cases. The state ranks 12th in the country for reporting cybercrimes.

Based on the number of cases that have been recorded thus far, the state may record a higher number of cases this year than in prior years.

Jose K. Mani of KC(M) inquired about the government’s awareness of the 900 percent increase in cyber scams over the past four years (2021–25) based on data gathered by the National Cyber Reporting Platform.

“The states/UTs are primarily responsible for the prevention, detection, investigation, and prosecution of crimes, including cybercrime, through their law enforcement agencies (LEAs). The central govt supplements the initiatives of the states/UTs through advisories and financial assistance under various schemes for capacity building of their LEAs,” he said. |
To address all forms of cybercrimes in the nation in a coordinated and thorough manner, the Ministry of Home Affairs established the “Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre” (I4C) as an associated office.
To help with online cyber issues, a toll-free helpline number, “1930,” has been operationalized. According to police reports, the central government has blocked 263,348 IMEIs and more than 9.42 lakh SIM cards thus far, the minister said in the response.
