Perplexity AI launched Comet browser & Email Assistant, India: Download, Email Tools Use, and Cost

In order to reach the largest internet user base outside of China, AI is launching its Comet browser in India. However, it is only available to paying users.
Perplexity Pro members have instant access to the AI-first browser for Windows and macOS, which can plan meetings, shop for you, and summarize research. Android devices can place preorders for it, while iOS compatibility is anticipated in the future.
In a Monday LinkedIn post, Perplexity AI’s co-founder, president, and CEO, Aravind Srinivas, announced the debut.
He had earlier told Hindustan Times that the Comet AI browser represents a change from “browsing to thinking,” presenting the product as a thinking partner as opposed to a passive tool.
What Is Comet AI Browser?
Comet blends an always-on AI sidebar that Perplexity refers to as “agentic” with a conventional chromium-based browsing experience. When permitted, it can conduct purchases on the user’s behalf, create and send emails, compare pricing and reviews, follow multi-step workflows across tabs, and schedule meetings.
According to Perplexity, the goal is to lessen tab clutter and allow the browser to continue displaying a context of jobs and projects instead of discrete pages.
Comet includes built-in interfaces with password managers and maintains browser history and AI interactions locally with end-to-end encryption by default. To attract corporate clients, Perplexity is also emphasizing its enterprise capabilities, such as admin controls and compliance pledges.
Perplexity In India
With the release of the Comet AI browser, Perplexity is making an early and forceful entry into a nation that, aside from China, has the largest internet population in the world. Perplexity Pro is now free for a year for millions of Airtel customers, thanks to a contract the company has with Bharti Airtel Ltd. In an indication of its intention to grow locally, the company is also seeking to hire in India.
India is a logical choice for Perplexity because it has a sizable and tech-savvy user base at a time when larger markets are still experimenting with Agentic AI in daily tasks. However, there are still concerns about how publishers and regulators will respond to a browser that acts, summarizes, and scrapes the open web, as well as whether industry leaders like Microsoft and Google will incorporate such assistive functions into their
browsers in response.
