Cybercrime Ring Dismantled in India for Spreading False Rumors
A cybercrime ring has been dismantled in India after spreading false rumors about a leaked question paper for the Uttar Pradesh Police Sub-Inspector recruitment examination. The scam, which targeted aspirants through Telegram channels, promised access to the leaked paper in exchange for payment.
Arrests and Investigation
The Lucknow police, in collaboration with Rajasthan authorities, arrested three individuals from Sawai Madhopur district in connection with the scam. The accused, identified as Sumit Meena, Shahil, and Sajid, were found to be operating multiple Telegram channels, including “UP SI UP Police 2026,” “Result Panel Pvt TM,” and “UP SI Exam Paper UP SI-2026.”
During the investigation, officials recovered a Vivo mobile phone from the accused, which was allegedly used to operate the Telegram channels and communicate with potential victims. Further inquiry revealed that the gang had accumulated significant wealth through cyber fraud activities, with the alleged mastermind, Sumit Meena, owning five SUVs suspected to have been purchased using proceeds from online scams.
Warning to Aspirants
Aspirants have been warned not to believe claims circulating on social media regarding leaked examination papers and not to transfer money to unknown individuals. Officials emphasized that recruitment examinations are conducted through a transparent process and warned that strict action will be taken against those spreading misinformation.

The authorities have advised candidates to be cautious of suspicious messages and posts on social media and to report any such incidents to the relevant authorities. The investigation is ongoing to determine the full extent of the gang’s activities and to identify additional victims.
