Uttar Pradesh’s New Transport Reforms Are Driven by AI, Chatbots, and Apps

On September 6, 2025, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, under the leadership and administrative guidance of Transport Commissioner Brajesh Narain Singh, unveiled a major package of reforms in Uttar Pradesh’s transport sector, placing the state as a proving ground for digital-first governance.  Over 1.5 lakh Common Service Centers (CSCs) throughout the state will provide faceless transport services for the first time, allowing residents to access 45 essential services without going to transport offices.  In a department that has long been criticized for its inefficiencies, the effort represents a significant change toward convenience and transparency.

At a high-profile event in Lucknow, the Chief Minister made the announcement alongside senior officials and Transport Minister Dayashankar Singh.

Technology Meets Transport

To provide citizen services, the new architecture combines digital monitoring apps, chatbots, and AI-driven analytics.  In order to address issues quickly, the administration has also launched the UP Margdarshi smartphone application and a 149 transit helpline.  As part of an effort to bring public transportation closer to urban norms of efficiency, passengers will be able to track routes in real time via a dedicated digital bus tracking app.

The opening of new driver training facilities and testing facilities, backed by automated technology to standardize safety and licensing procedures, was equally important.  According to officials, integrating data-driven processes will cut down on corruption potential in addition to delays.

Infrastructure and Innovation

Alongside these digital rollouts, the state has made noticeable physical investments.  The Chief Minister approved the deployment of 70 inspector cars for road enforcement and flagged off 400 new BS-6 buses, including types that run on electricity and compressed natural gas.  There are 25 grant-based bus stations and workshops planned, in addition to seven bus stations under PPP models.

The state’s adoption of new technologies is further demonstrated by the expansion of simulation labs for driver training and the introduction of double-decker electric buses.  Advanced road safety research is anticipated to be introduced through partnerships with organizations like IIT Kharagpur, and more women will join the driving workforce thanks to Memorandums of Understanding under the National Rural Livelihood Mission.

Public Service With a Global Touch

The announcement’s introduction of an International Driving Permit booklet, which would bring Uttar Pradesh into compliance with international mobility standards, was arguably its most ambitious component.  This is a component of a larger plan to portray the state as a center of innovation and a means of accessing global employment possibilities for its people.

The government pledged to make transportation safer and more inclusive by emphasizing accessibility in its campaign, “Jan-Jan ke liye sulabh, surakshit parivahan sevaayein!” which meant full convenience for every individual, safe transportation means!  Observers point out that if these adjustments are successfully executed, they may establish a model for other states where transportation service digitalization is still unequal and fragmented.
