Cyber Fraud Incident in Valsad District
A resident of Valsad district in Gujarat fell victim to a cyber fraud scheme involving a deceptive investment platform, resulting in the loss of ₹1.46 crore. Law enforcement officials arrested two additional suspects in the case, with investigators recovering ₹53.97 lakh as part of ongoing efforts to trace the remaining illicit funds.
Details of the Scam
The scam involved the use of fabricated investment groups and a fraudulent trading application designed to mislead the victim into transferring substantial sums. The accused allegedly operated online networks such as “B125-Wealthy Vision VIP Circle” and “460-Wealthy Vision VIP Circle,” where the victim was enticed with promises of high returns through institutional trading. He was introduced to a purported entity, “WealthyIN Broking Private Limited,” and persuaded to deposit ₹1,46,75,000 into multiple bank accounts.
A fake trading application was used to display fabricated investment growth, reinforcing the victim’s belief in the legitimacy of the scheme. When the victim attempted to withdraw funds, the perpetrators demanded a 15% commission, claiming it would be deducted from his balance. This triggered suspicion, prompting the victim to report the incident to cybercrime authorities.
Investigation and Arrests
Initial investigations led to the arrest of a suspect whose account had received a portion of the stolen funds. Subsequent inquiries revealed that the money had been distributed among other members of the network. Police conducted searches in Deesa, Gujarat, and Rajasthan but initially failed to locate the suspects.
Further analysis of financial records, mobile phone data, social media activity, and local intelligence indicated the suspects’ presence in Rajasthan and the Malgarh region. On September 12, during the Bhadarva Beej festival, law enforcement apprehended two individuals after receiving intelligence about their return to Malgarh. Investigators confirmed that ₹53.97 lakh had been recovered and returned to the victim.
Experts highlighted common tactics employed in such schemes, including the use of small initial profits to build trust before demanding additional fees. They emphasized the importance of verifying the regulatory credentials of financial institutions and avoiding unsolicited investment offers.
Public Advisories and Ongoing Efforts
Authorities advised the public to avoid sharing sensitive information such as OTPs, UPI PINs, or banking details with unknown parties and to exercise caution with claims of guaranteed returns or exclusive trading groups. The case underscores the growing prevalence of cyber-enabled financial fraud, with perpetrators leveraging digital platforms to exploit vulnerabilities.
Law enforcement continues to investigate the network’s operations and identify additional individuals involved in the scheme. Ongoing efforts focus on tracing the remaining funds through bank account examinations and transaction analysis. Cybercrime authorities also collaborated with the 1930 fraud helpline to block and recover additional assets.
