WhatsApp Introduces Additional Account Lock Feature for Enhanced Security
Meta Introduces Additional Account Security Measure
Meta has released a beta update for its Android app, version 2.26.7.8, through the Google Play Beta Program. The update hints at the introduction of an additional security feature that will require users to create a password to protect their accounts.
New Security Feature Details
The new feature, currently in development, will enable users to set up an alphanumeric password consisting of six to 20 characters, with at least one letter and one number required. The app will provide feedback on the strength of the chosen password, allowing users to update or remove it at any time.
Security Benefits
The introduction of this feature aims to reduce the risk of account takeover, even if an attacker obtains the verification code through SIM swapping or gains access to the device. To gain access to the account, the attacker would need to have both the 2FA code and the account password.
Current Security Measures
Currently, users can protect their accounts with 2FA by creating a PIN and adding an address to verify and recover their account. The introduction of this additional security measure is expected to provide an extra layer of protection for users.
