Online Fraud of $1.18 lakh

The victim’s father reported to the police in Panchkula that their son (home alone) received a link on his phone that moved him to a WhatsApp Chat.

The teen’s father, a property consultant from Sector 20, Panchkula, informed authorities.

Police have started looking for online fraudsters who used WhatsApp to advertise an escort service to a 17-year-old kid, convincing him to deposit $1.18 lakh to their bank account.

The 40-year-old father reported to the police that on May 2, while his wife was at her parents’ house and he was away in Karnataka, their home-bound son received a web link on his phone that took him to a WhatsApp chat.

By sending him images of ladies, the person on the other end of the queue offered him escort services.

The accused forced his son to send 1.18 lakh via his mother’s bank account by taking a number of actions.

Eventually, his son became frightened and refused to go when the conman asked him to visit a hotel in Peer Muchalla.

The fraudster later deleted every WhatsApp message.

On May 7, when the complainant got home, he discovered that his wife’s account had been moved for 1.18 lakh rupees to an account in Rajasthan.

His son revealed the situation after being prodded, and a police report was then made.

On May 31, a case was filed at the cyber police station under Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating), 384 (extortion), and 120 (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code.
