Anthropic Expands Mythos 5 Access for More Defenders with $35M Open Source Fund Launch
Anthropic is expanding access to advanced AI-driven cybersecurity capabilities through a series of strategic initiatives, including partner integrations, enhanced security offerings, a new open source funding program, and broader access to its Cyber Verification Program.
Anthropic’s Expansion of AI-Driven Cybersecurity Capabilities
Project Glasswing and Mythos 5
These efforts build on Project Glasswing, which initially provided select organizations with early access to Claude Mythos Preview and its successor, Mythos 5. The initiative aimed to enable defenders to identify and mitigate vulnerabilities before similar tools became widely available or were exploited by malicious actors.
Claude Fable 5 and Safeguards
The latest iteration, Claude Fable 5, is now generally available and includes safeguards to prevent dual-use cyber activities. Anthropic emphasized that unrestricted model access poses the highest risk, which diminishes significantly when users receive restricted outputs such as security patches or alerts.
Cybersecurity Partnerships
Anthropic is collaborating with cybersecurity partners to integrate Mythos 5 into existing security operations, incident response, and detection tools used by organizations protecting critical sectors like healthcare, utilities, financial systems, and software supply chains.
Defender Advantage Fund
The company also announced the Defender Advantage Fund (0xDAF), allocating $35 million in Claude credits to support open source maintainers in securing their projects. This follows prior investments under Project Glasswing, including initiatives like Akrites and Gold Eagle.
Cyber Verification Program Expansion
The Cyber Verification Program, which already provides vetted organizations with reduced safeguards on Claude Opus and Sonnet for authorized security tasks, will expand to include broader dual-use capabilities such as vulnerability triaging and validation.
Project Glasswing with U.S. Government
Anthropic is also extending Mythos 5 access through Project Glasswing in collaboration with U.S. government partners, focusing on critical infrastructure organizations meeting stringent security requirements.
Future Access and Rollout
Mythos-class access is expected to follow in the coming weeks. Anthropic is urging security teams to apply for the Cyber Verification Program to benefit from reduced safeguards on Opus and Sonnet, with further details on the expanded rollout anticipated soon.
