The Department of Telecommunication (DoT) has once again alerted users about online scams and frauds. Know from which numbers you have to be alert when receiving calls

Cybercriminals are committing cyber fraud on people by calling from many numbers.  These callers threaten mobile users by saying that their numbers are being misused for illegal activities.  The scammers on the call claim to be CBI officers and say that some illegal package has been received in their name.

Their motive behind doing this is to extort money.  DoT said that users are receiving calls from foreign numbers like +92-xxxxxxxxxxx.  If you are getting calls from numbers like +92… then you should be absolutely alert.

First of all, try not to pick up the phone.  Even if you pick up the phone, do not share similar information.  The Telecom Ministry has warned mobile users that cybercriminals try to threaten/steal personal information through such calls to commit cyber crimes/financial fraud.

It is further stated that DoT does not authorize anyone on its behalf to make such calls and people are advised to remain cautious.  DoT said that users should not share personal information with such callers even by mistake.

Report this type of call like this

If you also receive such spam calls, you can report them on the Eye-Report Suspected Fraud Communications of Sancharsathi portal sancharsathi.gov.in.  Apart from this, you can also call the cyber crime helpline number 1930.
