Seven individuals have been detained in connection with cybercrime operations involving deceptive practices, including impersonation of law enforcement, fraudulent financial schemes, and counterfeit documentation.

Impersonation of Government Officials

The incidents, uncovered by authorities, involved coordinated efforts across multiple jurisdictions. The modus operandi of the perpetrators included the impersonation of police and National Investigation Agency (NIA) officials, leveraging digital communication tools to intimidate victims. In one instance, a complainant reported receiving video calls from individuals posing as government representatives, who allegedly threatened legal consequences and arrest to coerce financial transfers. The accused reportedly accused the victim of involvement in money laundering and terrorism-related activities, using these claims to extract payments.

Investment Fraud via Social Media

A separate scheme targeted investors through social media platforms, where fraudulent advertisements promised high returns on stock market investments. Victims were lured via Instagram posts and subsequently directed to Telegram groups and a proprietary trading platform. One individual allegedly transferred a total of ₹2.87 crore across 33 transactions, with investigators tracing the funds through 38 bank accounts. The arrested individuals in this case include Mohan Darsande from Beed, Bhupendra Jain, and Yogesh Jain from Mumbai.

AI-Driven Deception and Synthetic Imagery

Technological tools were also employed in another incident, where an AI-generated voice and synthetic imagery were used to mimic a victim’s acquaintance. Fraudsters contacted the father of a resident in the Ubhar area, fabricating an emergency scenario to demand ₹50 lakh. A 29-year-old suspect, Netram Chadar from Indore, has been detained in connection with this act.

Forged Documentation and Financial Fraud

Another case involved the use of a forged letterhead to impersonate a motor company employee, facilitating an RTGS transfer of ₹9.50 lakh. The accused in this instance, Durgakumar Bhagat Bahadur from Kanpur, has also been arrested.

Ongoing Investigations and International Links

Law enforcement agencies are currently analyzing the financial records, digital communications, and potential international connections of the arrested individuals. Investigators are assessing whether coordination occurred between suspects in India and those operating from Hong Kong and Dubai. The cases highlight diverse tactics, including government official impersonation, investment fraud, AI-driven deception, and forged financial documents. Ongoing efforts aim to determine the full scope of the operations and identify any additional participants.

According to authorities, the investigation is examining the flow of funds and potential links to additional participants in the scheme.
