A series of cyber fraud incidents in Ahmedabad involved six distinct methods to deceive victims and extract financial information or funds.

Overview of Cyber Fraud Cases

Thaltej Case

A resident of Thaltej fell victim to a fraudulent scheme involving a counterfeit Google Pay transaction. An unknown caller claimed that the individual’s father had requested payment for a cricket ground rental through their bank account. The fraudster sent a fabricated message showing a 10,000 rupee transfer, creating the illusion of a legitimate transaction. The caller then requested assistance in sending 90,000 rupees to a relative in a hospital, prompting the victim to transfer 55,000 rupees. Upon realizing the promised funds never arrived and the contact became unreachable, the victim discovered the initial payment notification had been falsified.

Ambawadi Case

A resident of Ambawadi received a deceptive message purportedly from Adani Gas, warning of an unpaid bill and imminent service disconnection. The victim called the number provided in the message and was directed to a payment link. During the interaction, their debit card details were compromised, leading to the unauthorized withdrawal of 1.63 lakh rupees from their account.

Ranip Case

A user in Ranip was contacted during a gaming session, with the caller praising their gaming skills and offering to enhance their account. The victim was instructed to share their screen, after which their mobile device unexpectedly shut down. Upon restarting, they found their gaming account credentials altered.

Thaltej Nurse Case

A nurse in Thaltej sought a refund for an unreceived product and searched for a Blinkit helpline. A number appearing in search results led to the installation of a malicious APK file, which resulted in 75,000 rupees being withdrawn from their account without an OTP.

Sargam Flats Case

A resident of Sargam Flats reported unauthorized transactions after their banking credentials were stolen. The perpetrator used the compromised information to execute a 4.70 lakh rupee fraud. This case was part of six distinct cybercrime reports, each involving unique methods to access victims’ financial resources.

Naroda Investment Fraud

The most significant loss occurred when an individual in Naroda was lured by an Instagram Reel promoting high-return investment opportunities. Believing the proposition, the victim transferred funds multiple times, resulting in a 20 lakh rupee loss. The Cyber Crime Cell has initiated an investigation into this case.

The incidents highlight the importance of vigilance against unsolicited communications, unexpected payment requests, and unverified online offers. Users are advised to avoid installing applications from unknown sources, sharing screen access or banking details, and contacting customer service numbers obtained through unverified channels. Utility bill warnings and investment propositions should be verified through official platforms before any financial transactions are conducted.
