Backblaze Introduces New Tools to Streamline Endpoint Backup Management

Backblaze has launched two new tools designed to provide IT teams with greater control and automation over endpoint backup management. The Advanced Installer and Backblaze Command Line Interface (bzcli) are aimed at simplifying the deployment and management of endpoint backups for large and distributed environments.

The Need for Greater Control

The need for these tools arose from the growing complexity of IT environments, which has led to increased demand for deeper configuration control during deployment and ongoing management.

According to Gleb Budman, CEO of Backblaze, “While simplicity has always been a key aspect of our product, it should not come at the expense of control. As our customers grow, their IT environments become more complex, and we are responding to that need with the Advanced Installer and bzcli.”

Key Features of the Advanced Installer

The Advanced Installer enables IT administrators to preconfigure and lock specific client settings before deployment, ensuring that company-approved policies are enforced consistently across all devices.

  • Lock backup schedules
  • Centrally manage file and folder exclusions
  • Enforce consistent security preferences
  • Suppress non-essential desktop notifications

The tool integrates with widely used deployment platforms, including Jamf, Kandji, Addigy, and other MDM and RMM tools, reducing configuration variability and support overhead.

Introducing bzcli

In addition to the Advanced Installer, Backblaze has introduced bzcli, a new command-line interface designed for enterprise IT teams operating in RMM and MDM-managed environments.

Bzcli enables structured, automated management after installation, allowing administrators to modify client configuration settings, update backup schedules, and adjust notification settings remotely.

Bzcli features a command-based structure with predictable output, making it ideal for scripting and automation workflows.

The tool is cross-platform and included as part of the standard Backblaze Computer Backup client on both macOS and Windows.

The Benefits of the Advanced Installer and bzcli

The Advanced Installer and bzcli are designed to eliminate configuration drift and operational noise, allowing IT teams to define backup standards once, enforce them consistently, and adjust policies centrally without requiring user intervention.

These new tools make deployment more predictable and ongoing management significantly simpler for organizations responsible for protecting company data across large and distributed environments.
