Dell Confirms SupportAssist Software Causes Windows BSOD Crashes

In a recent development, Dell has acknowledged that its SupportAssist software is behind a series of blue-screen crashes on certain Windows systems.

According to a company representative, “The issue affects users who have installed the latest version of the SupportAssist Remediation service, specifically version 5.5.16.0.”

The problem was first reported by users on Dell’s official forums, where a company representative confirmed the issue and provided a workaround. The representative advised users to disable or uninstall the SupportAssist Remediation service, which can be done through the Windows Settings application.

However, it’s essential to note that uninstalling the service may result in the loss of system repair points created by Dell OS SupportAssist Recovery.

This is not the first time Dell software updates have caused significant issues for customers. In April 2025, the company warned that upgrading to SupportAssist for Home PCs v4.6.2/v4.6.3 on Latitude and Vostro series laptops could lead to blue screens.

Affected Systems

  • Windows 10
  • Windows 11

Recommendations

  • Disable or uninstall the SupportAssist Remediation service to resolve the crashes.
  • Contact support if blue-screen crashes persist after uninstalling the service.
