Advantest Admits Data Breach After Ransomware Attack
Advantest Corporation confirmed a ransomware incident leading to exposure of personally identifiable information, with details of the breach and response measures outlined.
Overview of the Ransomware Incident
Advantest Corporation has confirmed that a ransomware incident earlier this year resulted in the exposure of personally identifiable information. The company, which produces automated test equipment for the semiconductor industry, reported a network breach on February 15. At the time, the organization stated that an unauthorized party accessed parts of its systems and deployed ransomware, though it could not initially determine if customer or employee data was affected.
Data Breach Details
A data breach notification issued on October 6, 2026, revealed that the attack led to the extraction of sensitive information. The statement indicated that data was taken from servers, including PII such as contact details, date of birth, Social Security Numbers, national IDs, driver’s licenses, passports, medical records, financial data, and additional identification numbers. The notification did not specify whether the compromised data belonged to customers, employees, partners, or a mix of these groups. BleepingComputer sought clarification on the number of affected individuals but had not received a response by the time of publication.
Company Response and Measures
Advantest emphasized that there is no evidence the data has been leaked or misused, though it acknowledged the heightened risk of identity theft and fraud. To address this, the company provided instructions for enrolling in 18-month identity theft, credit, and web monitoring services through Kroll, with a deadline of January 4, 2027, for activation. Affected individuals are also advised to remain vigilant against phishing attempts, avoid engaging with suspicious links or attachments, and refrain from sharing sensitive information or sending money in response to unsolicited requests.
No Ransomware Group Claims Responsibility
As of the latest update, no ransomware groups have publicly claimed responsibility for targeting Advantest.
