Authorities Prepare Cybersecurity Measures to Safeguard Online Activities During the Historic Ram Mandir Event on 22nd January 2024

Fraudulent Websites That Take Advantage Of Devotees Are Being Analyzed Prior To The Ram Mandir Ceremony on 22nd January 2024.

Ayodhya:  As the sacred city of Ayodhya readies itself for the momentous inauguration of the Ram Mandir on January 22, a quiet conflict is unfolding in the digital domain. In order to protect the integrity of the event, the Indian government has created a robust digital defense system to counteract the anticipated increase in online traffic and potential cyber threats.

A collaborative group of cyber operatives, carefully selected from the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITy), the Intelligence Bureau (IB), and CERT-In, has arrived in Ayodhya.

Equipped with state-of-the-art technology and sharp alertness, these digital guardians will carefully oversee online behavior, search for dubious websites and applications, and eliminate any cyber dangers before they can manifest. The decision is made due to apprehensions regarding possible cyber threats originating from hackers in Pakistan and Indonesia, who may seek to disrupt online content or breach the broadcast system.

The significant enthusiasm surrounding the dedication of the Ram Mandir has regrettably drawn unscrupulous individuals who aim to exploit the religious devotion of the believers. Counterfeit websites and social media campaigns, posing as legitimate channels, have multiplied, enticing unwary individuals to contribute funds for ‘Prasad’ from the temple. These malicious plots not only steal earned money but also jeopardize personal information, presenting a serious threat of identity theft and financial fraud.

The Sri Ram Janmabhoomi Trust (SRJBT), the authorized caretaker of the temple, has issued strong warnings, advising devotees to be careful and only trust approved sources for making gifts.

The cyber security division of the Union Home Ministry has issued a heightened warning, cautioning the public about the risks associated with “malicious mobile applications” that falsely claim to provide VIP access to the temple. These applications, frequently infused with malicious software, have the potential to infiltrate devices and pilfer valuable data.

The government’s cybersecurity initiatives extend well beyond the consecration event. The I4C, founded as part of the National Cyber Security Strategy 2020, is leading a countrywide initiative to strengthen India’s cyber infrastructure and promote a culture of digital literacy among its inhabitants. This proactive strategy seeks to provide a resilient digital environment, ensuring the protection of not only religious events but also India’s vital infrastructure and digital economy.

The consecration of the Ram Mandir goes beyond its religious importance, representing the culmination of a protracted and arduous battle for numerous believers. The Indian government’s steadfast dedication to cybersecurity guarantees that this significant event can be commemorated with unrestrained delight, both in the tangible world and the virtual domain. India’s unseen protectors of the internet, diligently operating in secrecy, serve as a monument to the country’s determination to safeguard its digital boundaries and provide a safe future for its people.
