Fighting Back Against Digital Crimes

  • The Delhi Police has set up a robust infrastructure to tackle digital crime, operating 15 cyber police stations and 2 cyber cells, staffed with experienced personnel who work around the clock to investigate and resolve digital crimes.
  • The force has established the ‘1930’ helpline and the Delhi Cyber Financial Fraud Mitigation Centre (DCFMC), where 14 nodal officers from banks collaborate directly with the police to freeze fraudulent transactions and recover funds.
  • A specialized team at the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) shares real-time information with banks, aiding in the capture of perpetrators and recovery of funds.
  • Filing an FIR has been simplified, allowing cases involving fraud above ₹1 lakh to be registered more quickly.

Raising Awareness and Preventing Frauds

  • Education programs in schools and digital content on social media platforms aim to educate the public about potential threats, such as cyber bullying, online stalking, and scams disguised as digital arrests.
  • Experts emphasize that vigilance and verification of transactions by the public can significantly reduce fraud cases.
  • The coordinated efforts of the Delhi Police and banks have proven crucial in preventing fraudulent transfers and securing timely recovery.

As the city continues to grapple with digital payment and online fraud, government and banking initiatives, along with citizen vigilance, remain essential in mitigating the risks associated with these types of crimes.
