Initial Probe Initiated by Forged Banking Documents

Investigation commenced after Phool Singh, a manager at an Axis Bank branch in Deeg, reported the discovery of counterfeit bank identification and visiting cards on August 20. Law enforcement traced these documents to Akash Rathaur, a resident of Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh, who allegedly distributed fake Axis Bank materials to a customer. The customer alerted a bank employee, prompting the institution’s internal security team to verify the authenticity of the documents, which were confirmed as fraudulent.

Operation Unveils Large-Scale Fraud Network

The call center, operating under the name Anand Enterprises, was located in a three-story building in Uttam Nagar. A late-night raid by Deeg and Delhi Police resulted in the questioning of 83 individuals, including 43 women, with 19 released after no direct ties to the fraud were established. The remaining 64 suspects, including 33 women, were arrested. Police allege that the operation was managed by 47-year-old Saloni Mittal, who orchestrated activities involving false representations of Axis Bank and HDFC Bank officials.

Data Harvesting and Financial Exploitation

Investigators claim the call center targeted individuals by offering credit card and financial service opportunities, during which agents allegedly requested One-Time Passwords (OTPs), Card Verification Values (CVVs), Permanent Account Numbers (PANs), and Know Your Customer (KYC) documents. The recovered database included names, addresses, bank account details, and PAN numbers, raising concerns about the scale of potential victims beyond Delhi and Rajasthan.

Recruitment via Employment Platforms

The fraudulent operation reportedly recruited staff through job portals such as WorkIndia, advertising positions in a fictitious company. Employees were assigned roles including call handlers, trainers, and coordinators, with monthly salaries ranging from ₹11,000 to ₹15,000, plus commissions tied to financial gains from victims. Two minors were also detained during the raid, with investigators probing their involvement and recruitment methods.

Financial Irregularities and Digital Evidence

Preliminary findings indicate suspicious transactions involving crores of rupees, with investigators tracing financial flows to identify associated bank accounts and intermediaries. Over 88 mobile phones were seized, along with forged identification cards linked to Axis Bank, Yes Bank, and HDFC Bank. Digital evidence, including call records, messages, and SIM-card data, is being analyzed to reconstruct the operation’s structure and duration.

Public Safety Advisories

Authorities emphasized that individuals should never share OTPs, CVVs, or other banking credentials with unsolicited callers. Victims are advised to verify financial service offers through official bank channels and report suspected fraud via the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal or the helpline 1930.

Further arrests are anticipated as investigators review seized materials and financial records. The case highlights vulnerabilities in digital fraud ecosystems, underscoring the need for heightened vigilance and robust cybersecurity measures to protect sensitive financial data.
