Facebook Trading Ad Scams Target Vadodara Trader, Resulting in ₹20.69 Lakh Fraud
Trading Ad Leads Vadodara Trader Into ₹20.69 Lakh Cyber Fraud
The Fraudulent Scheme
A Vadodara-based trader reportedly lost ₹20.69 lakh following a stock market investment fraud after engaging with a deceptive advertisement. The incident involved a fraudulent group and a counterfeit trading platform that initially displayed fabricated profits before restricting access to the victim’s account.
Initial Contact and Trust Building
The fraudulent scheme began when the complainant, Harshad Suryavanshi, encountered an advertisement related to stock trading while viewing video content. This led him to join an online group where individuals, including an administrator and a woman identified as Krupa, allegedly misrepresented their affiliation with Motilal Oswal Financial Services.
Fabricated Returns and Escalation
The perpetrators initially built trust by showcasing fabricated investment returns, encouraging the trader to deposit additional funds. As the victim continued to invest, the group directed him to a fake trading website that mimicked legitimate financial platforms.
Investigation and Aftermath
After accumulating significant sums, the account was reportedly blocked, preventing further access to the funds. Suryavanshi discovered the deception and reported the incident to the National Cyber Crime Helpline on 1930. Waghodia Police initiated an investigation based on the complaint, focusing on the fraudulent advertisement, the group’s activities, the false association claim, the counterfeit website, and the bank accounts used for transactions.
The case highlights the tactics employed by cybercriminals to exploit trust in financial institutions and lure victims into fraudulent schemes. The incident underscores the risks associated with unsolicited investment offers and the importance of verifying the legitimacy of financial platforms before engaging in transactions.
Authorities’ Response
Authorities continue to investigate the case to identify the perpetrators and recover the stolen funds.
