Fake Recruitment Scams Targeting Job Seekers in Delhi: 5 Arrested

Authorities in Delhi have detained five individuals, comprising four women, in connection with operating a fraudulent call center targeting job seekers. The operation, reportedly based in Sangam Vihar, Jharoda Majra, involved deceptive employment offers to unemployed individuals through a structured financial exploitation scheme. The suspects allegedly impersonated recruitment representatives for reputable organizations, leveraging an online job-search platform to gather candidate information before initiating contact.

Targeted Job Seekers and Deceptive Tactics

Police investigations revealed the group operated under the guise of offering roles such as data entry operators, data analysts, web designers, and accountants at automobile and other companies. Victims were initially contacted via phone, with callers posing as recruitment personnel. The scheme began with an initial payment of ₹499, purportedly for courier charges, followed by repeated demands for additional fees under fabricated justifications. These included ₹1,500 for uniform charges, ₹3,500 for laptop security, ₹5,500 for account-opening fees, ₹6,500 for medical security, and ₹8,500 for affidavit charges.

Financial Exploitation and Communication Termination

Once victims refused further payments, the suspects allegedly blocked their numbers and ceased communication. Funds were collected through QR codes linked to multiple bank accounts. The operation also utilized fake joining letters, multiple SIM cards, and digital devices to maintain the illusion of legitimacy.

Recovery of Incriminating Evidence

During the investigation, law enforcement recovered 12 mobile phones, one tablet, seven debit cards, two passbooks, and counterfeit employment documents. The case highlights a coordinated effort to exploit job seekers through persistent financial demands and fabricated employment offers.

Suspects Identified and Background Details

The arrested individuals include Satish Chander Maurya, 30, Bindia alias Mahi, 20, Preet alias Surpiya, 22, Prachi alias Sweety, and Radhika alias Bhumi, 19. Maurya, who holds an M.Sc degree, previously worked at a private company. The group’s activities reportedly continued until their apprehension following a tip-off to the north district’s Anti-Auto Theft Squad on September 1.
