High-Tech Fraud Ring Uncovered in Jharkhand’s Giridih District

The cyber police in Jharkhand’s Giridih district have dismantled a sophisticated fraud ring that has been operating from remote forest areas.

According to official reports, the gang exploited vulnerabilities in mobile devices by sending links to fake APK files, which when opened, granted them unauthorized access to the victim’s phone. This enabled them to rapidly extract money from bank accounts, often within minutes.

The accused, six individuals including Mahendra Kumar Mandal, Krishna Kumar Mandal, Ishwar Mandal, Pankaj Kumar Mandal, Ranjit Kumar Mandal, and Aditya Kumar Mandal, utilized the dense forest areas as a secure base to evade detection, monitor police movements remotely, and conduct their illicit activities without arousing suspicion.

  • The operation was sparked by a tip-off received by the Giridih Superintendent of Police, Dr. Bimal Kumar.
  • Upon investigation, the authorities discovered a “high-tech forest control room” operating in the Charanbari and Kothahariya forests under the Bengabad police station area.
  • During the raid, the police recovered 11 mobile phones, 13 SIM cards, and five bikes, which were reportedly used to facilitate the gang’s operations.
  • Notably, several of the arrested individuals had prior convictions and had previously been imprisoned in Delhi and Giridih.

Law enforcement officials are currently examining the bank accounts and assets linked to the accused, aiming to disrupt the financial networks supporting this high-tech crime syndicate.
