Kodak Data Breach: ShinyHunters Hack Claims Exposed
A multinational corporation specializing in commercial printing and imaging technologies has confirmed a data breach following assertions by the ShinyHunters cybercriminal collective.
Overview of the Breach
The group publicly identified Kodak on their platform on June 15, alleging the theft of over 2.2 million records containing customer personal data and additional corporate information. ShinyHunters issued a threat to release the compromised data on June 18 unless a ransom was paid.
Kodak’s Response
Kodak stated it is collaborating with external cybersecurity professionals to investigate the incident and plans to provide further details “as appropriate.” A company representative disclosed that an unauthorized third party unlawfully accessed a limited volume of organizational data. “Our ongoing investigation indicates the breach was confined in scale and has been neutralized,” the statement asserted. “No risks to our systems or operational continuity have been identified as a result of this event,” the representative added.
Law Enforcement and Security Measures
The firm also confirmed notifying law enforcement agencies and cooperating with their inquiry. Organizations are advised to reinforce security protocols and monitor for potential indicators of compromise associated with such attacks.
ShinyHunters’ History
ShinyHunters has been linked to multiple large-scale data exfiltration operations in recent months, targeting critical enterprise software. The group recently exploited a zero-day vulnerability in Oracle PeopleSoft to compromise at least 100 entities.
Implications of the Breach
The breach highlights escalating tactics by threat actors, who increasingly leverage sophisticated methods to access sensitive information.
“Our ongoing investigation indicates the breach was confined in scale and has been neutralized,” the statement asserted.
