Microsoft Adds High-Volume Email Sending Feature to Exchange Online
High-Volume Messaging Now Available in Exchange Online
Organizations relying on Exchange Online for internal communications have faced challenges in sending large volumes of automated messages without hitting sending limits.
- A new capability called High Volume (HVE) addresses this issue by allowing dedicated HVE accounts for application-to-person messaging within an organization.
- HVE separates automated traffic from standard human communication workflows, keeping all mail within Microsoft’s infrastructure and subject to its existing security, compliance, and policy controls.
Configuring and Managing HVE
Administrators can set up and control HVE directly in the Exchange admin center under the Mail flow section.
According to Microsoft, “HVE is designed for high-trust, high-reliability use cases that organizations depend on daily.”
Pricing and Usage
HVE will be priced at $42 per one million recipients, with usage metered starting June 1, 2026. This pricing model aligns with the volume of internal sends through the service.
Microsoft states, “By consolidating high-volume automated traffic into Microsoft 365, organizations can eliminate the need for on-premises Exchange servers, third-party SMTP relay services, or repurposed user mailboxes.”
Deploying HVE
Deploying HVE requires no new infrastructure or third-party dependencies, as it runs natively within an existing Exchange Online tenant.
